Call for Papers: Fashion Highlight Journal 7

The Call for Submissions for the next issue of Fashion Highlight Journal is now live.
Guest edited by Group lead Dr Benjamin Wild and Dr Natalia Berger (InHolland University of Applied Sciences), the issue asks: Does Fashion Need a New Language?
Fashion has been called capitalism’s favourite child, a cultural phenomenon, and a global empire. As both the industry and academic field of fashion studies expand, the language we use to discuss fashion has become increasingly diverse—and increasingly important.
Fashion media has long presented an idealised image of fashion that excludes many lived realities: disability, ethical concerns, and sustainability challenges. This narrow self-representation creates limitations when we try to address pressing issues like environmental destruction and social inequality.
However, promising developments are occurring at the margins—in alternative fashion press, non-traditional media platforms, and spaces where fashion intersects with broader social concerns. These peripheral conversations are generating new vocabularies that may help fashion move beyond its idealized self-image toward more substantive engagement with real-world challenges.
Call for Submissions: The seventh issue of Fashion Highlight Journal explores how fashion discourse shapes—and might reshape—the industry. We welcome interdisciplinary perspectives and research-driven contributions that examine the relationship between language, representation, and change in fashion.
